Does anyone even read my journal anymore? I feel like I shouldn't write anything here at all. Nobody ever comments...so why should I even write? ok sorry about that I'm just a little disappointed right now and I really miss my friends and I haven't heard from anyone in so long I'm just getting discouraged a little. Ok whatever....ttyl

The weekend at Houghton

Well this will probably be pretty long but we'll see. Ok first the car ride was insanely long and took almost 7 hours. Going through New York was a blast though. Basically there is nothing around so that's lame but the scenery is the most amazing thing ever and all the trees were still dead so I can't wait to see it in August. I think all of western New York is hick towns, cuz the closest real grocery store or walmart is 30-45 minutest away. However, while this may sound inconvient and fraknly mind-numbinlgy boring, it's perfect for me. I need the quiet time and the lack of distractions will help me stay concentrated on classes. Anyway the first thing I did when we got there was meet the person I was staying with during the weekend. His name was Andrew and get this......his roomate's name is Dan. lol....not funny? well I think so. Anyway that was a lot of fun but nothing was going on during thursday since most students would be arriving on friday morning. So we (me, andrew, dan, and another guy named dan, plus another incoming freshmen named Jim) played Uno. It was quite fun I most say. Well we eventually went to sleep and the next morning we went to the campus center to pick up our laptops and learn exactly what time we'd be doing our course selection the next day. After that we had free time until lunch in which I got to spend talking to my Jewel on my new toy! Ok so after lunch all incoming freshmen went to "The Quad" to play games, and boy it was a beautiful day for it. Well the games were amazingly fun and also helped us get to know our classmates. I actually already made a few friends but more on that later. Ok so after the games was dinner and then more free time until "Frosh Shcok" which was my personal favorite part of the weekend. At first we (all the incoming freshmen) lined up to go into the gym at Neilsen and finally after about 10-15 minutes we got to go in. I was first in btw. Well all the team leaders for the weekend had their hands up forming a tunnel and chanting, it was a bit freaky to be the first through that espically since it was being tapped lol. Well after we all got in the upperclassmen started doing skits and they were pretty funny. After they finished the asked if any of us would like to do a skit and ofcourse I volunteered. Well there were about 6 of us who did and the upperclassmen gave us a bin of random items to use as props. Well to make a long story short we came up with a skit about an evil Santa (cuz one of the items was a santa hat) with a saddistic elf and Santa gave us all gifts that were crap. In the end we started up a mob and I got to tackle the guy playing santa. After Frosh Shock I felt a little bad about hitting him so I asked if I hit him too hard but he said he was fine. His name was Dave and I got to know him a little (he actually lives in Houghton) and he's going to be staying in Shen which is where I will be so hopefully I'll get to know him more next year. Ok also something freaky happened.....well the whole time I was there on the first day I thought I was the only kid from Michigan and I wasn't far off. Anyway, I was wearing my drumline shirt and a girl saw it I guess and asked me if I went to swartz creek. I said yea, how do you know of that (I was surprised cuz half the people there didn't even recognize Flint) and she asked me if I knew Kurtis Koffkey, and I was like yea he's like my best friend. Well eventually I found out she goes to church with him and she lives in Flushing. Small world huh? Well after Frosh Shock there was an ice cream social and that was a lot of fun...I actually caught up with Ian who is a sophmore at Houghton but I knew him cuz he was my camp counseler from Vassar last summer. It was good to talk to him and btw he also lives in Shen so that'll be good. The next morning I went to class sign up and I'll tell you what classes I have here

Biblical Literature
Literature of the Western World
First Year Introduction (yeah I get a credit for learning about adjusting to college lol)
Intro to Calc
Lifetime wellness (otherwise known as health)
Western Civilization I: Ancient
Western Civilization II: 1650 and on

With discussions and labs it comes out to 15 credit hours in my first semester. So that's pretty cool, and I'm really pyshced about Western Civ. I'm not taking anything for my major first semester but that's ok. I will next semester and also I get to take German again, actually starting in 102, which is second level German so that's fun (we'll see if I remember anything from High School lol). After course selection I went to the campus center and noticed that an information fair was going on, I saw a guy off in a corner and I wondered what he was doing. Well I found out that he was actually in charge of the cafateria and I got signed up for a job already. On monday, wednesday, and friday I'll be making french fries for dinner. So that is sweet awesome......6.75 an hour and on days I work I don't have to swipe my id for meals lol, and I already don't eat breakfeast so I'll have an insane amount of extra meals. Coffee here I come. Ok so after my laptop orientation we ate lunch and came home. That was pretty much my weekend. I loved it so much there, I didn't even want to leave. I can't wait to be back there. Not that I don't love you all here, it's just that I finally feel like my life is worth something again after a year and a half of nothingness. Ok so thats it for today.

Amazing Weekend and a new "Segement"

Well this was one of the greatest weekends I've ever had. No fighting, no problems (minus the very little one but we are cool with that) and no stress at all. Just a great time enjoyed with the one I love. Well anyway I want to start something on my LJ known as "Wisdom from John Reuben" He has a lot to say if you just read his lyrics. So I've decided that I'm going to peirodically post on of his songs on my lj and you all tell me your take on what he has to say. Ok this is the first edition.

This song is called "Have No Opinion" and it's just about keeping life civil. Give it a read and let me know what you think

Go ahead, grad your picket sign
So you can find out what you're protesting later on
It sure feels great to be a part of something, doesn't it?
Just as long as you belong
Hey, look at this
Little revolutionist
Trying to start a revolution with nothing to revolt against
Is it the truth that you’re defending
Or the chance for you to grab some attention?
Well hey, there’s the pedestal stand up straight
Don’t it feel great?
Everyone can see your face
What’s the cause again?
Why're you arguing?
It'll soon be forgotten, so why you bothering?
You’ll be off to the next thing that'll keep your short fickle attention span stimulated
We’re the products of a spoiled society
So naturally spoiled products are generated

You see, I have no opinion, I don’t
I could, but I won’t
I’m tired of arguing
So don’t begin with what cannot end
Because I’m tired

You’re defined by having an open mind
Yet you close me out every time I speak mine
We could agree to disagree and move on but humans love proving each other wrong
Forget it
Religion, cultural differences, politics
This could go on forever if we let it
This repetitive rhetoric is pathetic
Back to nowhere is where the argument's headed
You are who you are
Who am I to end it?
Hey I can’t make you think past your mental limit
I’m not God, I do not set the standard
Do not look to me if you want to expand yours
You see, me and you, we didn’t create the truth
Without the grace of God our views are construed and at best just a good attempt
Heck, it wasn’t until I surrendered my opinion that life made sense

I have no opinion, I don’t
I could but I won’t
I’m tired of arguing
I have no opinion, nor do I need to win
See, I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
So don’t begin with what cannot end
Because I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
I have no opinion, actually I do
I just don’t want to dispute with you

I’m only so many years old
Raised in Columbus, Ohio what do I know?
Midwest perspective, Midwest approach to life
American church, American Jesus Christ
The dos and don’ts, the wrongs and rights
The facts of life aren’t always black and white
But when it’s all said and done, at the end of the day
I’m trusting God to guide me through the gray

See, I have no opinion I don’t
I could, but I won’t
I’m tired of arguing
I have no opinion, nor do I need to win
See, I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
So don’t begin with what cannot end
Because I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
I have no opinion, actually I do
I just don’t want to dispute with you

You see, I have no opinion I don’t
I could, but I won’t
I’m tired of arguing
I have no opinion, nor do I need to win
See, I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
So don’t begin with what cannot end
Because I’m tired, I'm tired of arguing
I have no opinion, actually I do
I just don’t want to dispute with you

I've been away for awhile. So that's my story on not updating. I went to Acquire the Fire last weekend and it was amazing. The best and most inspiring one I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of them. On monday I went to Wes's and we just pretty much played video games and talked and laughed......a ton. Anyway that's pretty much it. I'm feeling really depressed right now but hopefully that will change when Hilary comes home tonight....we'll see. I love her so much and just can't wait to see her!
